Word Study: Parable

The word parable comes from the Greek (parabolē), literally "throwing" (bolē) "alongside" (para-), by extension meaning "comparison, illustration, analogy. An earthly story with a heavenly meaning


parabolē - a comparing, comparison of one thing with another, likeness, similitude. an example by which a doctrine or precept is illustrated, a thing serving as a figure of something else.
